funny...

Before I went into process for adoption, I had picked out the name Sara Mackensie for a girl, after a great or great-great grandmother on my maternal grandfather'side.
When I decided to adopt from Guatemala, I decided a Gaelic sounding name wouldn't be right for a lovely latina child, so I changed course. When I was blessed with the opportunity to adopt Mayra, I just saw no reason to change her name.
So far the only drawback is that when we go places selling personalized things for kids, they never have her name.
Her name didn't show up in my baby name book either.
This morning I was looking up a friend's name, because I couldn't remember what she had told me about the origin. On a whim I checked to see if they had Mayra in their list. Imagine my surprise when they listed as Irish in origin, as a variation of Maire, or Mary, and also a Spanish variation of Maria.
