Mayraisms

Mayra isn't reading yet, but recognizes logos. She can spot McDonalds from a mile away, knows the Toys r Us logo, Applebees, etc. Last week we were going to Borders, to let Mayra look at the kids section, and to look for a father's Day gift for Dad. On the way in, Mayra says "I want a muffin." I answer, well we don't have any muffins, she counters with: "I want a muffin from the muffin store, right there," and point to the Dunkin Donuts next to Cheeseburgers in Paradise.
Oy. After Borders, we slipped over to Applebees for dinner. It's not the greatest food in the world, but it's a kid friendly place. We took one of Mayra's books in, one about Whales and Dolphins. I was telling her Pop-Pop would have fun reading the book to her, and she decides he doesn't know the words.
Dad is immensely smart, but other than reading the newspaper, he is not into reading for pleasure. He is game for doing puzzles and playing with Mayra, and does read to her when she asks, but since she is into dinosaurs, he stumbles in the dino names, only to be corrected by a three year old.
