the dreaded day was today

At Mayra's 4 yr check up, the doctor wanted her checked for lead exposure, and also for anemia. This is annoying to me, because she was checked for lead when she was one, and there's not too much reason to believe she was anemic, but whatever.
I "forgot" about it for a while, then procrastinated further, but she needs proof of lead testing to get into pre-k, so today was the day.
All the way to the lab, Mayra was insisting "it's gonna hurt..." I kept telling her I didn't know how they would do the draw (because I wasn't sure how they would do it) and that some people think it hurts only a little, and others say it doesn't hurt at all.
The only thing that made things even slightly better, was me telling her I have a doctor's appt later this month, and I will need to get poked also. This sets offa chorus of "you're gonna get sta-abbed, you're gonna get sta-abbed." "They're gonna poke you in the BUTT."
She was very brave, and didn't squirm, even said it tickled.
By the time we got to the office, she decided it hurt afterall, and even had to walk with a limp part way to Mom's house.
