Never in a million years would I have expected an organization like YMCA to put out bogus coupons, but I had one yesterday.
I'm always checking the local program guides online for activities for Mayra. She has "program" membership, but I've been waffling on whether or not we would benefit from full membership.
At some point, I printed out a page that had a coupon on it that claimed to be good for a 3 day complimentary membership, valid until 10/24/08, at any Y except Sussex. I was hoping to try spinning one night, and let Mayra check out the pool the next day.
I got there more or less an hour early, and had to wait in line a bit at the front desk. Eventually it was my turn, I presented the coupon and the guy went to check if it was acceptable. Fair enough. I was wondering if they would really take it since I had printed it off the internet. He comes back saying I can have a one day pass, but that the offer was expired. I pointed out to him that the coupon said good until October 24, but he still insisted the offer was no longer valid. I went in and wandered around a bit, but couldn't figure out where to pick up the number for spinning class, and generally just wasn't feeling to welcome or comfortable about the whole place. Mayra would have really liked to pool, but when the weather gets warmer, I imagine it will get very crowded. I bailed out on the whole idea since it wasn't working out they way I had envisioned.
If they don't want people printing these coupons off the internet, then by all means, they shouldn't have made it available online. If they wanted to say that the facility was already overwhelmed (it was) OK. It just really irks me that they tried to say the coupon was expired when it had a date on it roughly five months from now.
