something different

Mayra didn't want to go skating yesterday, but I talked her into it. It turns out she likes it, but she just plain gets tired. Last week they were content to let Mayra skate around the edge with me holding her hand. This week the instructor wanted her to participate in the class more. Mayra seemed overwhelmed, and she was the smallest one there. It's a nice place, but after she finishes this round of classes, we will likely take a break.
The one thing she has been asking for is swim classes, and she wants parent-child classes, which will require ME to wedge my bulk into some version of a swimsuit and join her in the pool. Since Mom and Dad have a pool at their house, and since we will be spending time on the boat this summer, I really think she needs the water orientation, so I will try to squelch my discomfort and give it a go.
The really really really different thing is going on with me, and not my kid.
I went to a yoga class on Sunday, had a lovely experience even though I hadn't darkened any yoga facility since 2003. I was so shocked when I realized it had been so long, but being in class, it was almost as if I had never left. In spite of my increased weight and noticeable stiffness, I really felt right at home.
I also have a ticket to see a documentary on Weds. It's about the local Guatemalan community and I'm really looking forward to it.
It feels so odd to do things without my kid.
