When I was little, Mom and Dad would take me and my brother swimming at Lums Pond, it was quite the treat, and the water seemed so big. In recent years they have closed it to swimming, but you can still boat or fish. I decided to rent a paddle boat, because I was concerned about solo paddling and/or tipping over a canoe, and was equally dubious about the available kayaks.
The paddle boat was slow, and it was freakishly hot, but we had a pretty decent ride. We saw several heron, some geese and one turtle.
Mayra had fun telling mom about the turtle. Mom asked her what was the turtle's name, so Mayra decides to call him "Slither." She was also fascinated by him popping his head in and out of his shell. I forget when she came up with it, on the docks or on the boat, but at one point she put her hands on her hips and let out a big ol' "AHOY MATEYS!"
The Pond would be a great place to take my touring Kayak to, but I don't see that happening any time soon.
Mayra is mildly obsessed with the idea that she thinks she wants to go fishing. I just keep telling her we don't have a fishing rod, but alas, Sunday we crossed paths with a little girl outfitted with a Dora the Explorer fishing set, so we will have to make some arrangements to try fishing.
Desperately seeking someone else to do fishing duty...
