I've been dying for nearly three years to see if Mayra would like the ocean. (short answer, not really)
I decided to try Cape Henlopen, I hadn't been there in years. We had a nice drive down, nearly no traffic even though it was a race weekend in Dover. The car even decided to behave and not overheat on me.
So we get there, and hoo doggy, that's a long walk with a 3 yr old and twice as much stuff as I used to carry. Plus we get as far as the bath house before I realize I forgot the camera and money for the concessions. I had originally planned on renting an umbrella, but there was no way I was walking back to the car.
Mayra thought the ocean was interesting enough to look at, but wanted no parts of getting too close. She didn't want to put on her swimsuit, and even reminded me that she doesn't know how to swim. I told her she could just put her feet in if she wanted. She kept watching others playing in the water, and eventually decided she was "ready" to put her feet in. Unfortunately a "wave" came in faster than she liked, so we waded for less than five seconds, but the water was cold anyway.
She did like playing (for several hours) with her sand toys, and at one point wanted to wash her hands in the water, but changed her mind when she realized you have to get even closer to the drink to wash your hands than to dip your toes. We took a short walk and collected some shells, and some dolphins (?) were swimming. Every time the dolphins (porpoises?) went by Mayra reminded me we are going to Sea World in September, which reminds me, I need to bite the bullet and make some reservations.
I did snap a quick pic when we got back to the car to preserve the moment for posterity.

welcome to blogger!
Mayra is quite the fashionista in her shades!
thanks Kelly. She gets a new pair nearly everytime she sees a display in a store, then they end up all over the place. She had three pair to choose from on Saturday.
